When I first traveled to Cuba, the “Special Period” was just ending and it was complex. There was not a lot of infrastructure for travelers and I was met with a lot of challenges for basics like food and transportation.
I remember trying to make my way across the park, to the shade of a tree, to escape the intense heat. “I will be ok, if I can get to that tree!”
I got under the tree and it was not even a little bit cooler.
Many of my first trips and experiences were like that;
Nowhere to hide, thick air, music, noise, and people who were really committed to the art of conversation.
It wasn’t always in my comfort zone but there was this feeling that I kept noticing. I never felt lonely.
When we say, “Namaste” at the end of a yoga class, we are not only honoring the light in others, we are meditating on being part of the same life force. We are feeling our connection.
Traveling to Cuba often feels like a yoga class. At first, we are in a hurry and everything seems to be moving so slowly. Then we take a few breaths and give in to the rhythm. The flow may get strong, we may sweat, we may need to release some rigidity that is no longer serving us. Our body may lead us in the dance, the flow, we play between surrender and release. And by the time our trip ends and we lie in Savasana, we feel freedom around our heart, our breathing, and we love ourselves and others more.
One of the most beautiful parts of our work, is getting to hear about how our participants feel the magic of Cuba.
“Daily life will be a bit different and improved because of my time with you [Cuba Wellness Adventures], with your family and our group in Cuba. There will be more light, love, and depth which will provide better balance.”
